In December of 2017, the North Carolina Air National Guard and NC Department of Insurance announced a partnership between the Guard and the Office of State Fire Marshal to establish a state emergency training center at the Stanly County Airport.
Governor Roy Cooper signed a bipartisan state budget bill in November of 2021 that will provide $28 million to build the NC Emergency Training Center at the Stanly County Airport. The facility will include a state-of-the-art Aircraft Fire Fighting (ARFF) flight-crash simulator.
Construction and operation of the North Carolina Emergency Training Center (NC ETC) is possible through collaboration between OSFM, NCANG Fire Department, Stanly County, and NC Community Colleges. This state-of-the-art facility is positioned to become the most advanced specialized emergency training facility in the country.
Construction of the NC ETC is slated for completion in 2025, and this facility will enhance capabilities to offer training in critical areas such as Swift Water Rescue, Aircraft Firefighting, Urban Search & Rescue, Hazmat, and Fire Investigation Technician courses.
