North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will visit Stanly and Rowan counties on Monday, Oct. 4, where he will announce the new insurance rating for the town of Landis, present ceremonial grant checks totaling more than $175,000 to volunteer fire departments and distribute fire prevention coloring books for firefighters to give out to children.
Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will announce the new rating for Landis at 2 p.m. Monday at the Landis Fire Department, 136 N. Central Ave., Landis N.C. 28088.
The Landis Fire Department recently underwent an inspection by the Office of State Fire Marshal. A fire department’s rating affects homeowners’ and business insurance premiums and helps signal how prepared firefighters are at responding to calls and battle blazes in their fire districts.
Commissioner Causey is joining with the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina’s Operation EDITH program to distribute fire prevention coloring books to children. “EDITH” is an acronym for Exit Drill In The Home.”
While in Stanly County, Commissioner Causey will distribute ceremonial matching grant checks to nine volunteer fire departments – Aquadale Rural, Badin, Bethany Community, Endy, New London, Oakboro, Richfield-Misenheimer, Ridgecrest and South Side. The checks are part of a matching grant program providing more than $9.8 million to 554 volunteer fire departments across the state.
Commissioner Causey will also stop by the Charlotte Pipe construction site in Oakboro. The Office of State Fire Marshal oversees the state’s building code.
