Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey will visit the Home Depot on Wendover Avenue in Greensboro on Friday, June 4 to help distribute hundreds of smoke alarms ahead of Smoke Alarm Saturday.
Smoke Alarm Saturday is a one-day, statewide smoke alarm canvassing event designed to bring awareness of the need to have working smoke alarms in homes. Each year, fire departments across North Carolina come together on the first Saturday in June to help educate communities on safety practices in the event of a home fire.
Kidde Fire Systems is donating 540 smoke alarms to 10 fire departments in the Piedmont-Triad area to be installed in homes as a part of the statewide smoke alarm canvass taking place on Saturday, June 5. It is organized each year by the Office of State Fire Marshal to help prevent fire deaths in North Carolina.
Meanwhile, OSFM staff and local firefighters will be stationed at five Home Depot locations across the state on Saturday to promote the proper installation of smoke alarms on every level of every home. In conjunction with Smoke Alarm Saturday, Home Depot will be offering discounts on smoke alarms throughout the weekend, June 4-6, at all stores in North Carolina.
Commissioner Causey’s goal is to educate as many people as possible about home fire safety and more importantly, provide them with smoke alarms and the resources needed to take extra precautions from home fires.
