North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey today appointed Tony Bailey as Chief State Fire Marshal and Craig Jarman as Deputy Chief State Fire Marshal, effective Nov. 1.
“I have total confidence in both Tony and Craig as I have seen first-hand their leadership qualities in the office and on fire scenes,” Commissioner Causey said. “These appointments will continue our close working relationships with fire departments across the state. My goal as Commissioner has always been to help our fire departments, both volunteer and career fire departments as much as possible. This provides the best possible service to the residents in those respective fire districts.”
Bailey served as Deputy State Fire Marshal of Fire and Rescue Services at OSFM and has over 31 years in the fire service. He also served as the ISO Ratings Inspections Supervisor at the department.
Bailey graduated with a degree in Emergency Services Management at Nash Community College and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Fire & Rescue Management Institute in 2009. He has been the lead state advocate for the Everyone Goes Home initiative, designed to reduce firefighter line-of-duty injuries and deaths.
Jarman served as a fire investigator and special agent with OSFM and is the handler for OSFM’s K-9 Arson Investigator Nancy.
Jarman was heavily involved in fire investigations training, which assists fire officials, law enforcement and prosecutors in achieving better arson investigations and prosecutions.
Jarman also recently served as fire chief of the Southwood Volunteer Fire Department in Kinston.
