The NC Fire Safety Standard and Fire Fighter Protection Act (GS 58, Article 92), sometimes referred to as the “Fire Safe Cigarette Act (FSC)," requires that all cigarettes sold or offered for sale in NC meet the criteria for reduced ignition of cigarettes. Packs are also required to be marked with the “FSC” symbol near the UPC code. This law is expected to significantly reduce the number of people in NC who are killed or injured from fires caused by cigarettes left burning.
Any participating or non-participating manufacturer, who intends for their cigarette brands to be listed as compliant with the NC Fire Safety Standard and Firefighter Protection Act (Article 92), must file the Manufacturers Compliance Certification. It is unlawful, to offer for sale in the State of NC, any cigarette that is not compliant with the NC Fire Safety Standard and Firefighter Protection Act.
