NFA Qualification testing is now administered at Qualification School. Candidates can register for any Q School to qualify in the NFA subject. Candidate must meet pre-requisite of Instructor Level 2 certified and completion of Direct Delivery NFA course, relative to the qualification.


If the NFA direct delivery course is not listed on your OSFM record and is from USFA or an approved delivery agency, please send proof of completion to Katherine.Burton@ncdoi.gov for qualification test registration approval.

This course covers NFA Training Operations in Small Departments course is designed to provide students with some basic tools and skills to coordinate training in a small fire/EMS organization. 06Q0078 - NFA Fire Investigation: First Responder

This course presents a basic overview of a fire investigation. Students will review the basics of fire chemistry and develop an understanding of the role of the first responder in relation to fire suppression and fire investigation. The course will stress the importance of fire scene awareness, evidence identification, preservation and the basics of a fire investigation. Students will develop an appreciation for the convergence of suppression, investigation, science and law.

Successful completion of this course will provide students with the OSFM Direct Delivery Course and the Instructor Qualification Course.
